Product Activation Overview
Product activation is an anti-piracy technology
designed to verify that software products have been legitimately licensed. It is
quick, simple, and unobtrusive, and protects customer privacy.
Product Activation works by verifying that a software program's product key,
which you must use in order to install the product, has not been used on more
personal computers than intended by the software's license. You can use a
software activation wizard that enables you to provide your product ID to our
license management server either through a secure transfer over the Internet, or
using your Web browser. The activation code is sent back to your machine to
activate your product.
You have 14-day grace period before you must activate a
product. If you do not activate within 14 days, the product will stop
functioning, and only the activation wizard will be available until you
activate.
Each time you start a product, the activation wizard also starts - until the
product has been activated. If you choose to activate your product over the
Internet, the activation wizard will automatically detect your Internet
connection, and connect to a secure server to transfer your product key and hardware ID to the centralized license management service. No user
information is required. An activation code is passed back to your personal
computer, automatically activating the application. This process normally takes
just a few seconds to complete.
To activate a product using your Web browser, you can simply go to
www.activatesoft.net and choose "Activate
Product" link. You will be asked for your product key and the hardware
ID number displayed on the same screen. In return you will get an activation
code to be entered on the same screen. Once you have entered the activation code
into the activation wizard, the activation process is complete.
Activation data provided to the license management server is stored securely.
